Osteotomy is a common procedure in clinical practice, traditionally performed using rotary and mechanical instruments. While these tools are widely accepted, even with cooling systems, it can be challenging to fully prevent thermal and tissue damage. To address this, Kanazirski et al. (2023) introduced the LiteTouch™ Er:YAG Laser as an alternative, aiming to explore its synergistic potential combined with conventional methods.
Results: In the rotary drill group, the bone surface appeared smooth but was accompanied by bone fragments, a thicker smear layer, and microcracks due to mechanical trauma. In contrast, the LiteTouch™ group displayed smooth, well-defined borders, with the bone structure remaining intact. The laser-treated bone showed empty intratrabecular spaces, with no signs of carbonization or melting, and a thin smear layer only in certain areas at higher magnification.
Conclusion: This study demonstrated that osteotomy surfaces treated with the LiteTouch™ Er:YAG Laser suffer biomodification, eliminating the smear layer without altering the bone bed’s structural integrity.

The Result: PEEK (polyetheretherketone) and Ti (titanium) materials exhibited similar levels of fungal adhesion. PEEK initially limited in vitro polymicrobial adhesion for the first 48 hours of biofilm accumulation. Notably, when the PEEK was irradiated with the LiteTouch™ Er:YAG laser, decontamination proved more effective on PEEK surfaces, reducing microbial accumulation by approximately 11 times. In the in vivo study, PEEK material exhibited reduced levels of 6 bacterial species, including the putative pathogen Treponema denticola.
The Conclusion: The study found that while PEEK surfaces initially limited bacterial adhesion, this effect diminished over time. Therefore, the treatment with the LiteTouch™ Er:YAG laser significantly reduced the bacterial load on PEEK material, highlighting its effectiveness in maintaining a cleaner surface and reducing levels of periodontopathogens.

Light Instruments Ltd. is excited to announce that the LiteTouch™ Er:YAG Dental Laser, the world`s most versatile non-fiber Er:YAG laser for soft and hard tissue dental treatments, has been approved by the COFEPRIS – Comisión Federal para la Protección contra Riesgos Sanitarios for sale in Mexico!
The result: All four studies reported favorable results with Erbium Lasers for the conservative debonding of ceramic laminate veneers without enamel damage. The included studies evaluated dental morphology mainly through scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and light microscopy.
The conclusion: The Erbium Lasers are useful for the removal of ceramic laminate veneer without enamel damage. However, the removal is influenced by the type and thickness of ceramic and the type of cement used. It can be concluded that the application of the Erbium laser does not promote superficial changes in the dental enamel. This effect was observed in all analyses performed.

The result: After 6 months of treatment in pediatric patients, the Laser + Desensitizer (La + De) group had significantly lower mean scores (p < 0.001) in all dimensions of OHIP-14. The La + De and La groups, as well as the La + De and De groups, were different in total OHIP, functional limitation, physical disability, and psychological disability (p < 0.05). Mean values of each dimension differed significantly between group Co and the La + De group (p < 0.0001).
The conclusion: The combination therapy with the LiteTouch™ Er:YAG laser and GLUMA desensitizer had greater desensitizing effects and OHRQoL improvement for MIH pediatric patients, which provides an effective alternative treatment in the management of dentin hypersensitivity in MIH children and can reduce the negative impact on daily activities to a greater extent, thus improving the quality of life.

The result: The pocket depth decreases with 1.55mm for the control group and 1.70mm for the laser group. The attachment level gain reveals 1.09mm for hand instrumentation and 0.59mm for laser instrumentation. The bleeding on probing reduces more significantly in the laser group.
The conclusion: The LiteTouch™ Er:YAG laser instrumentation is effective in the treatment of moderate chronic periodontitis and leads to promising clinical results. LiteTouch™ instrumentation resulted in a significant reduction of pocket depth, bleeding on probing and gain of clinical attachment. The values obtained remain significantly lower one year after therapy compared to those measured in the initial clinical visit, which proves the long-term stability of the results.

The result: Diode and CO2 lasers with both parameters used increased significantly the temperature by more than 46°C, whereas the temperature in the Er:YAG laser group was less than 30°C. There was a statistically significant difference between diode, CO2, and Er:YAG lasers in favor of the erbium laser.
The conclusion: The LiteTouch Er:YAG laser demonstrates the best thermal properties during irradiation of the implant surface. The three preset tested – 1.5 W, 6.8 W, and 7.5 W – provide safe intervention on both the soft and bone tissues of the implant interface and on the implant itself, without causing an increase in temperature in the different substrates.

Light Instruments Ltd. is excited to announce the new partnership with 3S Dental distributor in Vietnam!
The result: Hand curets, nylon brushes, and the ultrasonic device showed limited capability to effectively remove the multispecies biofilm from the SLA surfaces as opposed to the LiteTouch™ Er:YAG which displayed a superior ability to remove the biofilm. All Er:YAG parameter combinations that were evaluated as well as the tested “tip to target” distances showed similar excellent anti-biofilm effects. Furthermore, we observed that the Er:YAG capability of biofilm removal is not only due to its light emission, but depends on its water irrigation as well.
The conclusion: In conclusion, the present finding demonstrated the possible effectiveness of the LiteTouch™ Er:YAG Laser. The demonstration that all three “tip to target” distances (1 to 5 mm) were equally effective—makes it possible for the clinician to avoid the aforementioned anatomical and structural obstacles, and affect the target from several distances in an effective way.

The result: Rotary instruments have no detrimental effects on the viability and differentiation of cells that form new tissue and ensure implant osseointegration. However, the groups treated with the Er:YAG laser (wavelength of 2940 nm) demonstrated the possibility that bone ablation and cleaning of the amorphous layer occurred without thermal side effects affecting the surrounding tissues.
The conclusion: The study demonstrated that the combination of the rotary technique and subsequent LiteTouch™ Er:YAG laser treatment of the bone using an original method is a promising prospect in implantology, as it may allow us to achieve faster and stable osseointegration of implants, leading to early functional loading.
The synergistic effect of the combination of the two methods leads to an absolutely precisely prepared implant site, which is achieved via conventional rotar
y methods, and a reduced or absent smear amorphous layer on the surface via the use of laser osteotomy only.

Świder K, Dominiak M, 2019, published this clinical case of an implant bed preparation of tooth 35 with the LiteTouch™️ laser of a 34-year-old woman.
The result: Preparing the implant bed with the LiteTouch™️ Er:YAG laser increases bone integration and the healing process due to less thermal tissue damage and precision in bone preparation. Also, because of the photoacoustic phenomena, the implantation site showed decreased bleeding compared to the conventional procedure with the bur.
The conclusion: Lasers in dentistry have many advantages for dentists and patients. Within the present study, it was concluded that LiteTouch™️ Er:YAG laser application in implant bed preparation may represent a promising alternative to conventional surgical protocols.

The result: In the coronal region, the lowest temperature changes (DT) were measured during the continuous mode, with a median temperature increase of 0.56 ± 0.67°C compared to 3.44 ± 2.22 °C using the segmented procedure. The highest temperature changes (DT) (12.14 ± 4.43 °C) were measured in the laser method without irrigation solution in the root canal.
In the middle region of the root canal, the following temperature changes (DT) were measured: 0.71 ± 0.80 °C for the continuous irrigation method; 2.98 ± 1.21°C for the segmented method; and 8.11 ± 3.12 °C for the control method without irrigation solution.
At the apical area of the root canal, the following temperature changes (DT) were measured: 1.89 ± 1.42 °C for the continuous irrigation method; 1.32 ± 0.76 °C for the segmented method; and 6.30 ± 3.39 °C for the control method without irrigation solution in the root canal.
The conclusion: The study demonstrated that the LiteTouch™ Er:YAG laser combined with the LiteTouch™ Endo tip in the root canal with irrigation, produced a minimal temperature change of 0.5–2 ◦C. Thus, this study recommends that the laser treatment be performed with an irrigation solution to optimally clean the root canal and avoid thermal damage to the surrounding tissue.

Patients with uncontrolled diabetes mellitus are more susceptible to periodontal damage and are often unsuitable for conventional surgery. The LiteTouch™ laser is iused in periodontal therapy, including a new technique known as Er:YAG Laser-Assisted Comprehensive Periodontal Pocket Therapy (Er-LCPT). This case report evaluates the safety and efficacy of Er-LCPT in a 51-year-old woman with Type II diabetes and severe periodontitis, who had been referred for extraction of tooth 12.
Results: Before treatment, the patient’s tooth 12 had a 9mm periodontal pocket depth (PD) and a 12mm clinical attachment level (CAL), with bleeding on probing (BOP). The LiteTouch™ laser was used to remove the inflamed tissue, followed by debridement. No painkillers were needed post-procedure. After 6 months, the PD reduced to 2mm, with CAL improved to 7mm and no BOP. Bone regeneration was confirmed at 1 year, and after 1.5 years, the tooth remained stable, with a 7mm PD reduction and a 5mm CAL gain.
Conclusion: The LiteTouch™ Er-LCPT is a safe, effective, and minimally invasive alternative for treating severe periodontitis. Significant improvements in pocket depth, clinical attachment level, and bone regeneration were observed, making it a valuable option for managing periodontitis in diabetic patients.

Study finds that the LiteTouch™ Endo Spiral tip is 99% effective for root canal disinfection.
The recent paper published by Sebbane et al., (2022) proved that the Side-Firing Spiral Endo Tip is the only tip that allowed the laser energy straight to the target walls of the root canal, ensuring the cleaning and disinfecting of the root canal system.
Moreover, the LiteTouch™ Er:YAG Laser + Endo Spiral tip increased the reduction of the bacteria regardless of the type of endodontic irrigation fluids chosen.
The conclusion: LiteTouch™ Er:YAG Laser with the Endo Spiral tip presented a safe and efficient treatment for eradicating bacteria and removing the infected regions from root canals.

There is a direct correlation between the increased use of dental implants and peri-implantitis.
Peri-implantitis is an inflammatory process in tissues around dental implants, gradually leading to loss of supporting bone. The biofilm, which is predominantly made up with gram-negative bacteria and anaerobes, is highly associated with this condition.
In this in vitro study, Dr. Paweł Kubasiewicz-Ross and colleagues evaluated different methods of bacterial biofilm decontamination of dental implants with various types of surfaces.
The result: The Er: YAG laser irradiation promoted the highest implant decontamination for all different implants – machined-surface implant, SLA implant, and HA-coated implant.
Er: YAG laser irradiation was also the only approach capable to achieve up to 90% decontamination on HA-implant coated – The most difficult type of implant surface to decontaminate.
The conclusion: The LiteTouch™ Er: YAG laser was the superior method in decontaminating the different types of implant surfaces.

The result: Group E (LiteTouch™ Er:YAG Laser 500mJ x 15Hz) exhibited more pronounced and uniform etching effect compared to groups C (300mJ x 15Hz) and D (400mJ x 15Hz). Microleakage and bonding strength analyses revealed that the laser and 9.6% HF acid pretreatment groups (Group B) differed significantly from the control group (Group A) in dye penetration depth and shear strength (P < 0.05), although the LiteTouch™ Laser and acid-etching groups did not differ from each other, indicating comparable outcomes in these aspects.
The conclusion: The LiteTouch™ Er:YAG Laser demonstrated distinct etching effects on the glass–ceramic surface, enhancing the bonding properties between the glass–ceramic and dentin. Moreover, the Er:YAG Laser at 500mJ x 15Hz resulted in a surface modification effect on the glass–ceramic, which was comparable to that achieved through a 9.6% hydrofluoric acid pretreatment, which can prevent the HF’s detrimental effects on the oral mucosa and dental pulp. In the future, the effects of LiteTouch™ Er:YAG Laser pretreatment on the microleakage and bonding strength between glass–ceramic and dentin should be monitored in clinical practice.

In this article, Dr. Jan Kyrik, Jacek Matys and colleagues compared the shear bond strength of the enamel surface using the LiteTouch™ (Er:YAG laser) combined or not with the 37% orthophosphoric acid solution.
The result: The LiteTouch™ combined with 37% orthophosphoric acid obtained the highest values of shear bond strength when compared with the conventional treatment and the laser alone. A significant change in the enamel surface was noted after applying laser, reaching up to 9% of enamel thickness.
The conclusion: The use of Er:YAG laser at 100 mJ x 10 Hz (1Watt) combined with 37% orthophosphoric acid for enamel conditioning improves the adhesion of composite materials to the tooth.

What is the best method to enhance the root canal disinfection rate in primary teeth?
In this article, Dr. Chandrashekar Yavagal and his colleagues evaluate and compare the efficacy of photo-initiated photoacoustic streaming and conventional irrigation technique.
The result: Post intervention results showed no bacterial growth in the canals irrigated using. There was statistically significantly higher reduction in E. faecalis counts in Laser Activated irrigation (LAI) group compared to NaOCl.
The conclusion: Total elimination of E. faecalis counts was obtained by the use of laser activated NaOCl irrigation in the infected root canals, hence, it can be considered as an effective method for pediatric endodontic disinfection.

“I use the Er:YAG laser for peri-implant maintenance on a daily basis.”
Read Dr. Fabrice Baudot’s interview explaining why dental lasers have become an essential part of his daily practice and sheds light on the clinical benefits of combining laser-assisted surgery and ceramic implantology.
In this study, the authors from Peoples Friendship University of Russia (RUDN university) present the results on the effectiveness of the root canal disinfection using an erbium laser in combination with a 17% solution of ethylene diaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) in vitro and in clinical studies.
An experimental group of teeth was treated medically according to a standard protocol using 3% solution of sodium hypochlorite and 17% solution of EDTA followed by irradiation with erbium laser. The control group was treated similarly but without laser irradiation.
The obtained results prove that the modification of the root canal treatment by the inclusion of erbium laser irradiation is a promising direction in endodontics.
This Sapphire Tip was especially designed to deliver energy throughout its length into the tissue (like a sword).
When you are in need for cutting soft tissue with longer, finer, deep cuts – choose the Blade Tip to perform the surgery for a clean and clear cut!

Nowadays the world is going through a health emergency period, a pandemic caused by COVID-19 disease spread.
Since a proper therapy or vaccine does not exist yet, the World Health Organization (WHO) is focused on limiting the spread of the virus.
According to WHO, COVID-19 is transmitted amongst people through respiratory droplets.
Since the virus can remain in the air and on surfaces from several hours to several days, suggested guidelines have been announced, such as: observing individual hygiene; avoiding contact – social distancing; use of negative pressure ventilation in hospital sectors; wearing a face mask for protection; disinfection of frequently touched surfaces; and to reduce COVID-19 spreading through aerosol.
The guidelines for dental clinics are still unclear and are evolving, but one consideration is already clear – reducing the risk of virus and bacteria transmission between patients and staff and patient-to-patient.
In this study, the authors from Wroclaw Medical University in Poland assess the changes in temperature of pulp and enamel during laser debonding of brackets. Their findings confirm that the use of Er:YAG family lasers for orthodontic ceramic bracket debonding in an invitro study is safe and effective. The study found that the temperature inside the tooth did not increase, and it even decreased during treatment with Er:YAG laser using water cooling, provided that appropriate proportion of water and air was used.

Using the LiteTouch™ Er:YAG Dental Laser Dr. Baudot recommends to descend layer by layer and selectively remove the inflammatory infiltrate, via tissue micro-ablation along the internal wall of the gingival pocket. This process cleans the wound through a space of about 1mm throughout the full depth of the pocket to the bone. The LiteTouch™ Er:YAG Dental Laser is then also used to decontaminate the root surface and flush the periodontal pocket.

LiteTouch™ Er:YAG dental laser is able to debond veneers while preserving the tooth structures!
Dr. Zhang et al. aimed to verify if Er:YAG laser, at low fluences, is able to debond porcelain veneers successfully, without damaging the tooth structures. 12 freshly extracted and decontaminated teeth, were bonded with porcelain veneers. One week later, the LiteTouch™ Er:YAG laser was used to debond the veneers. Results demonstrated that veneer debonding is possible with the LiteTouch™ Er:YAG laser and SEM images confirmed that, when using low fluences, the residual tooth structure is not altered.
The authors concluded that low fluences of the LiteTouch™ Er:YAG dental laser are able to debond veneers while preserving the tooth structures!

Abstract:
Purpose: Due to the limited effectiveness of irrigation to reduce the bacterial load inside root canals, the efficacy of activated irrigation techniques was evaluated.
Results: The positive control group had significantly more bacteria than all other groups. EDTA irrigation had low efficiency. US irrigation 1 mm from the working length was significantly more effective than controls. Laser treatment to the coronal third was the most efficient.
Conclusions: Laser activated irrigation caused the greatest bacterial reductions.

Conclusion:
To this end, is the laser the best choice for the treatment of peri-implantitis? Surely, yes, it is.
The LiteTouch™ Er:YAG laser can be used for veneer or ceramic crowns de-bonding by dissolving the cement without damaging the veneer or crown or overheating the pulp.
LiteTouch™ irradiation is not absorbed by the veneer/ crown material, but is transmitted through the veneer / crown and is absorbed by organic components and H2O/OH groups of the resin cement. When enough cement is ablated through the veneer / crown, it slides off the tooth surface.
Veneer / crown removal can be done without damaging tooth structure. This procedure doesn’t require anesthetics.
The video images were filmed during a Laminates Course, by Dr. Daniel Hiramatsu at BOC Sao Paulo, in collaboration with IBZ and Light Instruments Ltd. The first Laminates course in Brazil presenting veneers removal using LiteTouch™ Er:YAG Laser-in-Handpiece.

Article Conclusions:
The use of laser energy can be an excellent alternative to many procedures in pediatric dentistry. In the case before us, the removal of a raised lesion and fibroma that was formed after the lower lip injury and constant irritation was demonstrated. The lesion, which had considerable dimensions, disturbed the child and interfered with his functioning, and it was necessary to remove it and receive an accurate diagnosis of its nature. The success of the treatment was expressed in the fact that the treatment was conservative, quick and one-time, without pain or fear. The child was fully cooperative and the rapid treatment and healing of the tissue ensured great satisfaction for the child and his parents.

This has allowed me to open my mind and explore the wonderful world of Laser therapy“
He added: “The ability to adapt and to set the power, frequency, energy, direction and diameter of the laser beam provide infinite solutions that makes the LiteTouch™ Er:Yag laser an unavoidable tool in modern surgery. The advantages of Laser therapy over other mechanical instruments are highlighted even more with the use of microsurgery. I feel very excited to discover a new world after several years in which I believed that everything had already been said and done.”
