The result: There was a considerable decrease of PPD CAL, BoP and plaque presence values at 1 and 3 months after therapy in both treatment groups. Site treated with Er:YAG laser demonstrated mean CAL gain od=f about 1.0mm and 0.44mm in the first and third month, respectively.
The conclusion: The LiteTouch™ Er:YAG laser-treated group demonstrated a greater reduction of inflammation in comparison with the conventional treatment of moderate chronic periodontitis with hand instruments. This allows the use of fibreless Er:YAG laser treatment as an effective nonsurgical periodontal alternative treatment of the most common periodontal disease, moderate chronic periodontitis.
